Severe winter storm paralyses Europe, hundreds of flights canceled

A violent winter storm has gripped Europe, triggering the cancellation of hundreds of flights, paralyzing rail services, and forcing major road closures, Pulse Mubsher reported.

Western Europe remains on high alert as Storm “Goretti”—the Atlantic coast’s first major system of the year—is expected to dump more snow and ice across the region on Wednesday.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs, reported that at least 700 flights were canceled today due to heavy snowfall and high winds.

This follows days of persistent disruption that left over 1,000 travelers stranded at the terminal overnight.

Services disrupted

“Air traffic remains significantly disrupted,” Schiphol management stated in a press release.

“Our snow removal teams are working to ensure as many flights as possible can operate safely. However, the continuing winter conditions and gale-force winds are limiting capacity. We anticipate the number of cancellations, currently exceeding 700, will continue to rise.”
The Netherlands’ national rail operator has reported severe service interruptions, advising passengers to postpone non-essential travel.
