Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour has highlighted Egypt's growing global and regional influence in the field of science and innovation. The country ranked 83rd among the world's top 100 centres of science, technology and innovation for 2025. This is reported by Sada el-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the minister, in 2024, Egypt ranked first in Africa and third in the Middle East in terms of investment in start-ups, attracting US$2 billion over the past four years. The government has formed regional alliances between academia, industry and entrepreneurs. These alliances aim to transform scientific developments into products that contribute to the growth of the national economy.

To support research, the ministry has launched a presidential initiative called the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, the source stated. Active work is underway to internationalise it, with 16 publishers currently participating, and the ministry is also working on international knowledge exchange. There has been an increase in the number of Egyptian researchers, reaching one million people working in universities and centres across the country.

Ayman Ashour added that Egypt has become the first Arab country to host the annual conference of the World Academies of Sciences.
