Egypt, Cyprus discuss natural gas interconnection
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy on Thursday participated in the official ceremony marking Cyprus’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the European Union, which began at the start of January.
The ceremony was held in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, in the presence of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, heads of state, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, and several prominent international and regional figures.
Badawy emphasized that Egypt’s participation in this event reflects the strength of the robust ties between Egypt and Cyprus.
Partnering in regional natural gas interconnection between the two countries is at the forefront of cooperation areas and has witnessed continuous progress recently, he added, successfully transforming interconnection ideas and projects into agreements and practical steps.
The minister added that Egypt is a key partner for Cyprus, particularly in strengthening regional cooperation and integration to achieve energy security – especially given Egypt’s pivotal role as a hub for supplying European markets with energy and the ambitious projects it is leading in this field.
