Egypt intensifies state-led textile sector revamp

Egypt is stepping up efforts to modernize its textile and spinning sector, a strategic industry considered a cornerstone of the national economy, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Sunday,21 December, 2025.Madbouly chaired a government meeting in the New Administrative Capital to review the implementation of the textile sector development plan, attended by Public Business Sector Minister Mohamed Shimi, Ahmed Shaker, managing director of the Cotton, Spinning, and Garments Holding Company, and Rasha Omar, assistant minister for project development.


The comprehensive modernization plan aims to overhaul factories, restructure operational systems and improve production efficiency through advanced technologies, enhancing product quality, increasing output, expanding exports and generating sustainable employment.


Madbouly noted that billions of pounds have been invested in the sector, with private-sector partnerships now being engaged for management and operations to safeguard investments and ensure optimal utilization of assets.


Officials reported progress across major textile projects nationwide.


Egypt Spinning & Weaving Company in Mahalla achieved 95.5% completion of its spinning plant and 90% of its dyeing facility.


At Kafr El-Dawwar, overall development work at the Egypt Spinning & Dyeing Company reached 79%, with plans to complete the remaining works. In Damietta, spinning and textile preparation factories reached 74% and 92% completion, respectively, with the dyeing facility at 82%. The Upper Egypt Spinning & Weaving Company in Minya recorded 71% progress.


Other completed projects include Shibin El-Kom Spinning & Weaving (Spinning 2), covering nearly 25,000 square meters with a daily production capacity of around 10 tons of yarn, and the Dakahlia Spinning & Weaving Company.


The meeting also reviewed production, sales, and inventory levels at the Egypt Synthetic Silk & Polyester Fibers Company and the Egypt Cotton Trading & Ginning Company, as well as export performance from Mahalla factories. Officials highlighted ongoing private-sector partnerships to operate and manage the facilities, in line with government goals to strengthen this key industrial sector.
