Egypt pushes local production in automotive sector

Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir held a meeting with representatives from 23 local bus and vehicle component manufacturers to assess domestic production capabilities and advance the national program to localize car manufacturing.

Wazir emphasized the government’s focus on deepening local manufacturing, enhancing supply chains and supporting factories with financing and incentives to achieve full reliance on domestic production. Target components include steel for vehicle frames, galvanized sheets, glass, rubber, fasteners, dashboards, air conditioning units and lithium batteries for electric vehicles.

Manufacturers outlined their current production capacity and expansion plans and requested technical support and standardized specifications for components. The meeting highlighted progress in producing vehicle glass, fasteners, interior upholstery and exterior panels, signaling Egypt’s push toward greater self-sufficiency in the automotive sector.
