GEM: Egypt’s cultural landmark wins global acclaim
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has cemented its place among the world’s most celebrated cultural landmarks, earning international recognition for its architectural brilliance, environmental leadership, and intelligent design.
Renowned as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions, the GEM upholds the highest standards of excellence, boasting eight ISO certifications across energy management, environmental performance, quality control, and occupational health and safety.
The museum’s journey of distinction began in 2022, when it received the Gold Certification for Green Building and Sustainability from Egypt’s National Housing and Building Research Center, alongside the “Best Green Construction Project” award, honoring its eco-friendly design and energy-efficient systems.
In 2023, the GEM was recognized at the Global BIM Awards as the “Best Smart Building Model”, a testament to its innovative use of digital technology and data-driven engineering throughout its development.
By 2024, the museum achieved the EDGE Global Certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), becoming the first green museum in Africa and the Middle East.
That same year, it won the UNESCO-endorsed Prix Versailles Global Award, a prestigious honor celebrating its harmonious blend of ancient inspiration and modern design.
