Egypt Introduces New Tourism Strategy: Heritage Tourism, Eco-Resorts and MICE Infrastructure
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has unveiled a new initiative to boost tourism by stimulating private sector investment and leveraging state-owned resources to upgrade the nation’s hospitality and tourism infrastructure. The strategic approach will seek to develop a more diverse and sustainable tourism sector, combining historical depth, modernity, and eco-tourism. As part of this wider strategy, the government aims to build strategic properties and locations, especially in Cairo, Alexandria, and the Red Sea, in joint ventures with private investors.
Focus on MICE Tourism and Luxury Hospitality in Key Locations
Central to Egypt’s tourism expansion is a strong emphasis on the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. The government has identified a need to establish large-scale hospitality zones equipped to host international conferences, corporate meetings, and global exhibitions. A prime example is the planned development of a sprawling MICE precinct near Cairo, designed to feature luxury hotels, wellness resorts, and world-class conference facilities. This will not only enhance business tourism but also elevate Egypt’s profile as a global business hub.
