Egypt raises alarm over latest Nile floods, blames Ethiopia’s grand renaissance dam
Severe flooding has affected Egypt's northern Nile Delta regions, attributed to Ethiopia's operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The impacted regions include Beheira and Menoufia, with significant damage to farmland and homes prompting evacuation measures.
Ethiopia claims the GERD has mitigated flooding in Sudan, while Egypt argues it poses a threat to downstream communities’ security.
The GERD is Africa's largest hydroelectric dam, aiming to enhance Ethiopia's energy capabilities and promote regional exports.
