33 percent of work on Al Dabaa nuclear power plant completed
Egypt has completed 33 percent of the construction work on the Al Dabaa nuclear power plant, located northwest of Cairo. The announcement was made by the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. Mahmoud Asmat, in an interview with the Egyptian newspaper “Asharq news”.
Minister Asmat, who traveled to Russia to celebrate World Atomic Energy Week, added that the North African state "aims to increase the plant's construction progress to 42 percent by the end of the year, with the first nuclear reactor expected to be operational by 2029." According to data reported by "Asharq," the cost of the Al Dabaa plant project is approximately $28,5 billion, $25 billion of which is financed by a 22-year Russian loan. The project will be implemented by the Russian company Rosatom. The plant will comprise four advanced third-generation pressurized water reactors, with a total capacity of 4.800 megawatts. The first reactor is scheduled to start up in 2028, while the plant's estimated operational life is 60 years.
