Egypt’s unemployment to drop from 6.2% in 2025 to 4.4% by 2034
Fitch Solutions projects that Egypt’s unemployment rate will steadily decline over the coming decade, dropping to 6.2% by the end of 2025 and further to 6% in 2026. The report anticipates a continued downward trajectory, with the rate expected to reach 4.4% by 2034.
The forecast outlines a gradual fall year by year: 5.8% in 2027, 5.6% in 2028, 5.4% in 2029, 5.2% in 2030, 5% in 2031, 4.8% in 2032, and 4.6% in 2033, before settling at 4.4% the following year.
Alongside these labor market trends, Fitch emphasized Egypt’s demographic outlook. The population is projected to grow from 114.5 million in 2024 to 132.34 million by 2034, marking an increase of more than 17.8 million people in a decade—equivalent to an average annual growth rate of about 1.46%.
Supporting these projections, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported in August that Egypt’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% in the second quarter of 2025, down 0.2% from the previous quarter. The labor force expanded to 33.614 million, a 0.5% increase, driven by 223,000 additional employed individuals and a reduction of 57,000 unemployed individuals.
