Egypt has received more than $27.5 billion in financing from the World Bank (WB) across 201 projects since 1959, with 13 active projects worth $6.5 billion currently underway, according to a new report on the Bank’s partnership with Cairo.

The report, released on Sunday, said Egypt is the third-largest WB partner in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with cooperation centered on infrastructure, human capital, private sector growth, and renewable energy.

Under the 2023–27 Country Partnership Framework (CPF), backed by a $7 billion financing envelope, the focus is on job creation, improving education and health outcomes, and building resilience to economic and climate shocks.

Funding includes $1 billion annually from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), about $2 billion from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and guarantees from the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

It draws on a strong base of World Bank Group (WBG) analytical work, including the Systematic Country Diagnostic, the Country Private Sector Diagnostic, and the Country Climate and Development Report.
