$386M trade exchange bet. Egypt, Japan in Early 2025

Despite the overall rise in trade, Egypt’s exports to Japan declined by thirteen point three percent, falling to $27.5 million from $31.7 million.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that trade exchange between Egypt and Japan reached $386 million in the first five months of 2025, compared to $342.7 million during the same period in 2024. This marks an increase of twelve point six percent.


Despite the overall rise in trade, Egypt’s exports to Japan declined by thirteen point three percent, falling to $27.5 million from $31.7 million a year earlier. In contrast, imports from Japan surged by fifteen point two percent, recording $358.5 million compared to $311 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.


Agricultural and food products made up the bulk of Egypt’s exports to Japan. Fruits led the list with a value of $8.2 million, followed by oil seeds and oleaginous fruits at $4.3 million, and vegetables and plants at $3.6 million. Additional exports included prepared animal fodder ($2.2 million), electrical machinery and equipment ($1.2 million), clothing ($1.1 million), carpets and floor coverings ($1 million), inorganic chemicals ($964.4 thousand), prepared vegetables ($901.9 thousand), and fertilizers ($643.7 thousand).


Meanwhile, Japan’s exports to Egypt were led by vehicles, tractors, and motorcycles, which amounted to $102 million. Machinery and mechanical appliances followed with $81.2 million, while rubber products totaled $24.9 million and electrical equipment stood at $24.7 million. Other major imports included articles of iron or steel ($18.8 million), raw iron and steel ($17.8 million), optical instruments and devices ($17 million), pharmaceuticals ($14.1 million), plastics and plastic products ($11.4 million), and organic chemicals ($7.8 million).
