Shell Egypt Greenlights Development of West Mena Gas Field in Mediterranean
Shell Egypt has reached a final investment decision to develop the West Mena gas discovery, located in the North East El-Amriya offshore concession in the Mediterranean Sea, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
Shell will lead the development and operation of the field with a 60 percent stake, in partnership with Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC Egypt), which holds the remaining 40 percent. The project will be implemented in close coordination with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).
Originally discovered in October 2023, the West Mena field will be connected to the existing infrastructure of the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession — a move expected to enhance Egypt’s domestic energy supply.
Dalia Elgabry, Chairwoman of Shell Companies in Egypt, commented "investing in new production from the West Mena field strengthens Shell’s global leadership in the integrated gas sector and supports our commitment to delivering secure and reliable energy to the local market — aligned with our strategy of creating more value with lower emissions."
