CBE reinstates daily cash withdrawal limit, effective Tuesday
On 8 July, the CBE raised the maximum daily withdrawal to EGP 500,000 to facilitate cash-based transactions during a period of communication system disruption across the banking sector caused by the massive fire at Ramses Central, the country's largest telecommunications hub.
According to the CBE, the earlier adjustment was intended to ease financial pressures on businesses and individuals who rely heavily on cash during a time when digital and remote banking services were affected.
The decision was framed as a proactive measure to maintain operational flexibility while the sector worked to restore full system functionality.
The CBE has directed all banks to comply with the reinstated withdrawal cap of EGP 250,000 immediately given that communication networks have largely stabilized.
Banks have also been instructed to ensure the smooth implementation of the decision and adherence to the set regulations.
Withdrawal limits via ATMs and digital banking platforms were not affected during the temporary measure and remain unchanged.
Back to regular working hours
The CBE also issued directives for banks to return to their regular working hours, following the end of the exceptional period that had allowed some branches to extend their operating hours until 5 pm.
The regular bank working hours are from Sunday to Thursday, 8:30am to 3:00pm.
Bank branches in shopping malls open until 11:00pm. Bank branches in airports operate 24/7, such as the Cairo International Airport branch. Extended hours at Banque Misr branches: 55 branches operate until 5:00pm.
Some branches in malls and airports remain open until 7:00pm or operate 24/7.
