Israeli gas exports to Egypt rebound to 1 bln cubic feet a day after Iran truce

The increase marks a significant recovery from the 260 million cubic feet a day recorded when Israel’s largest gas field, Leviathan, resumed operations last Wednesday after a 12-day shutdown triggered by the conflict. Israel’s Ministry of Energy confirmed the temporary suspension of gas exports during the disruption and stated that efforts were underway to restore shipments, which are now reportedly at full capacity.

In response to the disruption, Egypt implemented an emergency plan that included prioritizing domestic gas allocations and temporarily cutting supplies to some industrial sectors, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The ministry said it is also working to secure long-term supply contracts with international partners as a safeguard against future shocks.

The developments come after a revised forecast by Goldman Sachs, which raised its outlook for Egypt’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports earlier this month. 

The investment bank now expects Egypt to import 7–9 million tonnes in 2025 and 2026 and approximately 12 million tonnes annually from 2026 to 2030 — a sharp increase from previous projections of 4–5 million tonnes and 3 million tonnes, respectively. The revision reflects what the bank described as a “structural deficit” in Egypt’s natural gas supply.
