IKEA Egypt recalls a kitchen gadget over safety risk
In a statement shared by Egypt’s Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), IKEA explained that small metal fragments could detach during use and mix with food, potentially causing injury if ingested.
It added that the recall was coordinated with the CPA.
In a separate statement, the CPA said it had received an official notification from the brand’s local representative after the issue was detected during an internal review.
The agency noted that the defect might not be immediately noticeable while cooking, creating a direct safety threat to consumers.
The garlic press, priced at EGP 549 ($12), has been one of IKEA’s top-selling kitchen items in Egypt.
As a precautionary measure, IKEA urged all customers in Egypt who purchased the garlic press to immediately stop using it and return it to any IKEA branch or contact customer service at 16576 for a full refund or exchange.
