Misr Hotels’ board of directors unanimously made this decision as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its hospitality footprint.

The company stated that it will begin taking necessary executive and legal steps, including preparing a feasibility study covering financial, technical, and marketing aspects, through a specialized firm listed by the Central Bank of Egypt.

An engineering report will also assess the building’s current condition and suitability for hotel conversion.

The company also affirmed that a detailed timeline will be established to guide the implementation of each project phase.

Misr Hotels' revenues rose over nine months to EGP 1.42 billion in FY2024/2025, up from EGP 1.003 billion in the corresponding period in FY2023/2024. This reflects optimism about its ongoing projects and market conditions.

The Omar Effendi chain began in 1856 as Orosdi-Back, founded by Austro-Hungarian merchants.

A Jewish Egyptian merchant then acquired it and renamed it Omar Effendi in 1921.

The El-Hegaz branch in Cairo, known for its distinctive architecture, has long been a landmark reflecting Egypt’s rich commercial heritage.

Established in 1955, Misr Hotels Company is a prominent player in Egypt's tourism and hospitality industry. It operates under the umbrella of the Holding Company for Tourism, Hotels, and Trade.

It also owns and manages several notable properties, including the Nile Ritz-Carlton in Cairo and the Safir Dahab Resort Hotel in South Sinai.

The decision to transform the Omar Effendi, El-Hegaz branch, into a four-star hotel aligns with Misr Hotels' broader strategy to revitalize historic properties and enhance Egypt's tourism infrastructure.
