Several government officials, diplomats, and public figures attended the celebration.

During her speech, EU Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst said the EU has grown from six founding members to a dynamic union of 27 countries, with more than 450 million citizens and a GDP of 25 trillion euros.

“In this union, Egypt holds a very special place,” she expressed.

“Your presence here tonight is a testament to the authenticity and depth of our friendship,” Ambassador Eichhorst said, addressing the European and Egyptian guests.

She affirmed that Egypt and the EU share more than interests — they share values, aspirations, and a commitment to peace.

This year’s Europe Day holds special historical significance, as it marks 80 years since the end of World War II, the deadliest conflict in human history.

“War is, tragically, still part of daily life for many in our region,” the ambassador said. “We must work harder to unite against violence and pursue a shared vision of peace and prosperity.”

Ambassador Eichhorst also reflected on the origins of the European Union, which was born from the 1950 Schuman Declaration. This declaration laid the groundwork for the European Coal and Steel Community, a bold step toward preventing future conflict in Europe.

“It was not grand speeches that built Europe, but practical cooperation. And though it began with only men, today the EU proudly counts strong women among its leaders — from presidents to parliamentarians to entrepreneurs,” she added.

Moreover, she highlighted the ongoing cooperation in education, green energy, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian efforts, tracing a rich tapestry of historical ties — from Alexandria’s European architecture to shared academic and artistic exchanges.

“We are building bridges between people, grounded in joy, curiosity, and trust. Tonight, we celebrate not only an ancient friendship but a forward-looking partnership with modern ambitions,” the ambassador continued.

In concluding her speech, Eichhorst expressed hope that “the next chapter of this partnership will be our best yet.”
