The Egyptian government has signed a shareholders’ agreement with UAE-based Othman International to establish two joint-venture companies dedicated to sustainable industrial development, with a total investment of LE 1.7 billion. The projects will be executed under the umbrella of Misr Rayon and Polyester Fibers Company, a subsidiary of the Cotton, Spinning, and Weaving Holding Company.

These initiatives aim to recycle plastic and textile waste to produce high-demand industrial materials—polyester fiber and industrial felt—while reducing carbon emissions and supporting Egypt’s shift toward a circular economy.

First Project: Polyester Fiber from Recycled Plastics

The first project, with an investment of approximately EGP 1.1 billion, will be built on a 25,000 square meter site. It targets the production of 30,000 tons annually of polyester fiber from recycled plastic waste. These fibers serve multiple sectors including apparel, bedding, insulation, road construction, and automotive interiors.

With a capital of EGP 1 billion, the project is expected to bridge the local supply gap and export around 80% of its output, generating an estimated EGP 800 million in annual sales.

Second Project: Industrial Felt from Textile Waste

The second venture, backed by EGP 600 million in investment, will span 20,000 square meters and also aim for an annual capacity of 30,000 tons. It will recycle fabric scraps and remnants to produce industrial felt, used in aircraft, trains, cars, furniture, and insulation manufacturing.

Set to export 52% of its production, the project is projected to achieve annual sales of EGP 230 million, with a starting capital of EGP 400 million.

Strategic Vision for Kafr El-Dawwar

Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimi, stressed the strategic importance of these projects in reducing Egypt’s reliance on imports and positioning Kafr El-Dawwar as a regional center for green industrial innovation. He also emphasized the advantages of locating the facilities near key ports and industrial zones, which will enhance logistics and attract further investments in environmentally responsible manufacturing.
