The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi stated that transforming the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) into an economic authority would position Egypt as a regional hub for the mining industry, in line with the Egypt Vision 2030.

Badawi made this remark during his speech at the House of Representatives’ plenary session to discuss the report of the joint committee, comprising the Industry, Energy and Environment, Constitutional and Legislative Affairs, and Planning and Budget Committees, on a draft law amending certain provisions of Law No. 198 of 2014, promulgating the Mineral Resources Law.

Badawi stressed the importance of integrating and strengthening cooperation between the parliament and various state institutions. He also highlighted the need for the optimal utilization of Egypt’s resources by striking a balance between attracting investment and protecting national wealth, ensuring the effective participation of both foreign and local investments in the nation’s development returns.

Additionally, the Minister explained the ongoing efforts to reform the mining industry. He noted that the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) is working to advance the mining sector and boost its contribution to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) through a clear vision and an ambitious action plan within the government’s three-year program.
