A significant increase in trade between Egypt and Italy was reported by Egypt’s Cabinet media centre, with bilateral exchange having reached $6.6 billion in 2024.

Italy was identified as Egypt’s largest European trade partner, and this figure marked a notable rise from the $5.9 billion recorded in 2014. Over the same period, Egyptian exports to Italy were said to have increased by 36 percent, totalling $3.4 billion last year.

Among the top Egyptian exports to Italy were mineral fuels, valued at $1.4 billion, followed by aluminium and related products at $473.1 million, and plastics at $293.5 million. In return, imports from Italy were led by machinery and equipment ($863.2 million), mineral fuels ($803.5 million), and electrical appliances ($205.6 million). Italian investment in Egypt was reported to have reached $21 billion by the end of the 2023/2024 fiscal year, with over 1,300 companies operating under Italian partnership.

Strategic joint projects were also highlighted, including the Egypt–Italy Ro-Ro shipping line, which was credited with significantly reducing delivery times for agricultural exports, and the development of the Zohr gas field, carried out in collaboration with Italian energy firm Eni. Development cooperation was said to have expanded as well, with €82 million allocated to areas such as SME support and vocational training. Debt swap initiatives amounting to $350 million were also detailed, along with direct Italian assistance to schools, employment programmes, and technical development in key industrial zones.
