Viking's newest river cruise ship for Egypt hits the water
US-based Viking Cruises has confirmed the launch of its newest river cruise ship for operations in Egypt.
The 82-guest Viking Amun is a near-identical sister of Viking Osiris (pictured), Viking Hathor, and Viking Sobek. The ship is under construction at the Cairo facilities of Egyptian company The Arab Contractors.
The stateroom options will include twelve standard staterooms, 21 veranda staterooms, six veranda suites, and two larger suites. The suites will each have two full-size rooms and a veranda, and all cabins will have wifi connectivity, individual climate control, and a flatscreen TV with infotainment system.
The ship will boast a lecture hall and a library with a wide selection of books on history, culture, and other related subjects in line with Viking's aim of being the "The Thinking Person's Cruise Line" with the focus on educating rather than entertaining guests during each voyage.
The vessel will also feature several aspects unique to ships in the Viking river fleet, such as a distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor terrace with a viewing space and an al fresco dining area that will serve both Egyptian and international cuisine.
