Over LE 1.8 Trillion Allocated to Health, Education, and Infrastructure in Egypt’s FY2025/2026 Budget
As part of its continued investment in public services and infrastructure, the government has allocated LE 3.5 billion to expand residential natural gas connections across cities and villages. An additional LE 5.2 billion has been designated for the railway sector, while LE 1.8 billion will cover student and metro transport subscriptions. To further support public mobility, LE 2.5 billion has been earmarked for transportation services in Cairo and Alexandria.
Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk confirmed that the draft budget meets the constitutional requirements for spending on both health and education. He described the FY2025/2026 plan as a “budget of growth, stability, and partnership with the business community,” reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing public services and fostering private sector collaboration.
In the healthcare sector, the budget allocates LE 617.9 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. This includes a 50 percent increase in funding for state-covered medical treatment, raising the total to LE 15.1 billion, and a 26 percent boost in funding for medications and medical supplies, which now total LE 45 billion.
Education also receives a substantial share of the budget. LE 684.7 billion has been set aside for pre-university education, LE 358.2 billion for higher education, and over LE 173 billion for scientific research—reflecting the government’s focus on long-term human capital development and innovation.
