Egypt powers a new era of urbanization with massive construction projects
Egypt fast-tracks urban expansion with major projects in New Alamein, Ras El Hekma, Dabaa and Marina, aiming to transform its Mediterranean coastline.
Sherif El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, conducted an in-depth field review of strategic development projects in New Alamein City and the broader North West Coast. This inspection aligns with Egypt’s national agenda to accelerate urbanization and infrastructure growth along the Mediterranean corridor. The review was carried out in close coordination with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) and its affiliated bodies.
Key areas of focus included progress on New Ras El Hekma City, as well as the surrounding zones spanning West Ras El Hekma, Samala, and Alam El Roum. The review also addressed plans for a future urban hub west of Dabaa, alongside a range of luxury coastal resorts.
The minister received comprehensive updates on the first phase of New Ras El Hekma, covering land transfers, infrastructure development, and construction milestones. These included potable water and irrigation systems, roadworks, sewage networks, and the establishment of tourism, hospitality, and administrative facilities. Specific updates were also shared on rapid development underway in Shams El Hekma, where essential services such as electricity, water, and sanitation infrastructure are advancing.
In addition, El-Sherbiny reviewed the urban expansion project west of Dabaa, which is managed by NUCA. Updates covered land reallocation for existing residents, compensation mechanisms, the area’s master plan, and deployment of critical infrastructure—ranging from roads and utilities to community service buildings. The area is being developed as a comprehensive urban district tailored to both local residents and regional investors, with direct access to the coastal highway.
