Egypt, Saudi Arabia Forge Energy Efficiency Partnership
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman, signed an agreement to develop an executive plan for energy efficiency cooperation between the two countries. The signing took place in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the Egypt International Energy Conference (EGYPS 2025).
The agreement lays the foundation for a national energy efficiency program in Egypt, with both nations working together to develop and implement the initiative. Saudi Arabia will contribute expertise and technical support, while the partnership will focus on establishing methodologies, mechanisms, and action plans to improve energy efficiency at a national level.
Under the agreement, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will exchange knowledge and technical expertise to enhance energy efficiency. This includes developing technical standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with efficiency guidelines, and building human capacity through training programs and workshops.
Beyond technical support, the agreement also aims to strengthen energy efficiency infrastructure and facilitate financing and investment opportunities to support energy-saving projects. This initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions and drive long-term improvements in Egypt’s energy sector.
As part of this collaboration, both countries will explore the creation of a joint entity dedicated to developing and implementing renewable energy efficiency projects in Egypt. This effort will be undertaken in partnership with Saudi Tarshid Company, a leader in energy efficiency solutions.
To ensure the agreement's successful implementation, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will establish a joint oversight mechanism, defining key targets and performance indicators. Additionally, specialized technical teams will be formed to manage different aspects of the cooperation, ensuring effective execution and measurable progress.
