DFDS has initiated a direct ferry service connecting Egypt and Italy, aimed at enhancing Mediterranean trade dynamics. This route establishes a link between Damietta in Egypt and Trieste in Italy, facilitating the movement of goods between North Africa and Europe. This marks DFDS's first venture into Egypt, introducing the first freight ferry service between these two markets in approximately ten years.

The service is designed to transport a variety of goods, including fresh vegetables and fruits, textiles from Egypt, and dairy, agricultural, and industrial products from Europe. It offers a quicker and more cost-efficient option compared to traditional container shipping, especially for perishable items.

Mathieu Girardin, Head of the Ferry Division at DFDS, stated, "The new route aligns perfectly with our commitment to organic growth and solidifies our strong presence in the Mediterranean region. The service not only expands our network but also enhances our ability to connect communities and support local economies opening up opportunities for trade and stronger economic ties between the two countries."

The inaugural voyage is set for November 29, 2024, with weekly departures planned from Damietta on Fridays and Trieste on Mondays, boasting a sailing time of about 68 hours. In a strategic move, DFDS has partnered with Pan Marine Shipping Services, securing a dedicated terminal at Damietta port to streamline the loading and unloading process.

Marwan El Shazly, Vice President of Pan Marine, commented, "As a comprehensive shipping and logistics service provider, Pan Marine continues to lead the way in offering maritime solutions tailored to the needs of both the local market and our global clients. The launch of this new freight ferry route marks a major milestone for Egypt's trade relations with Europe. We are glad to collaborate with DFDS in providing innovative and efficient transportation solutions."
