Egypt's oil ministry has denied reports that the Samsung Santorini drillship has left the gas field. Zohr, in the eastern Mediterranean, due to problems related to delays in payments by the government in Cairo.


The information website “Attaqa”, based in Washington and owned by Saudi Arabia, had reported that the Italian company Eni had been forced to withdraw the drillship Santorini, owned by Saipem, from the main offshore natural gas field in Egypt and to suspend development work at due to non-payment by the government.


The spokesman for the Egyptian Oil Ministry, Hamdy Abdel Aziz, called this information "completely false", stressing that Samsung Santorini has completed drilling a well in the northeast Hapi area, in the Mediterranean Sea, and has moved from the area only after completing the work. Regarding the drilling program in the Zohr field, Abdel Aziz he specified that it will be carried out in the fourth quarter of this year, as planned with Eni.
