Egypt’s PM inspects ‘Pyramids’ factory for tires, rubber products
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly made an inspection tour of various development projects in Port Said and Damietta governorates, on Saturday.
He started his tour by visiting the “Pyramids” factory for manufacturing tires and rubber products in the industrial zone in Port Said.
Madbouly affirmed that the state provides the full support for the factory to expand its production in local markets, in order to reduce the import bill, expand exports, and increase job opportunities.
The CEO of the factory Ibrahim Gouda said that Pyramids Tire Manufacturing Complex is being built on an area of approximately 75,000 square meters, and it also contains many lines. The factory manufactures products like motorcycles, three-wheel tires, indoor air balloon tires, and rubber spare parts.
He added that the factory was established with 70% local components in its tire products, and 100% local components in its solid tire products. Meanwhile, the factory directs 75% of its production to the local market, and 25% % of production for export.
Gouda also said that a first factory was established in Egypt to extract raw rubber from used and expired tires, and reuse it in all rubber products instead of importing it.
He further explained that external tires for motorcycles began in May of 2020, and the factory is the first factory in the Middle East to use German technology to produce various types of tires.
Gouda said that there is potential for expansion of the project because it is located near to the ports of East and West Port Said, and other existing ports in the rest of the governorates such as (Damietta - Alexandria - Al-Arish - Sokhna) and also the Sinai Tunnel.
The Prime Minister held a friendly dialogue with one of the workers in the complex about the proximity of the factory to the residence, the working conditions there, and the financial wages and allowances. She praised the working atmosphere in the factory.
He continued that the project contributed to providing job opportunities for 1,500 workers, and that it could be increased to 5,000 workers, noting that seminars and environmental and industrial awareness courses are constantly being held for workers to clarify how to deal with materials in all areas in an eco-friendly way.
Before Eid Al Fitr (The Breakfast after a one-month fasting) celebrations, the Prime Minister had made an inspection tour to the city on the 10th of Ramadan, and inspected a number of factories.
During this tour, Madbouly stressed that to ensure the stability of economic growth in the future and not be exposed again to any external disturbances that would affect the state, Egypt must rely on productive sectors.
He continued: “Therefore, we have identified four main sectors on which the Egyptian economy will depend in the next stage. They are: industry, agriculture, communications and information technology, and tourism.”
