The Ministry of Industry has announced the lifting of the export ban on onions, following the accumulation of a sufficient surplus in the country's crop reserves, based on the data available at the end of March. Egypt, traditionally among the top onion exporters worldwide, had halted shipments in October 2023 due to a sharp increase in the international price of onions.

This increase led to elevated retail prices within Egypt, as producers sought to capitalize on the lucrative overseas market. With the current surplus achieved after a six-month hiatus, the resumption of exports is not anticipated to significantly impact domestic prices.
