Romanian energy company CIS Gaz said on Monday it has opened a new branch in Egypt's capital Cairo to consolidate its presence in the country.

The company said it has also delivered the first batch of Romanian-manufactured equipment for the Egyptian government's Hayah Karima project.

"The new branch will improve CIS Gaz's ability to serve customers in the region, being a strategic step in the continuous growth
and innovation of the company's services and solutions beyond Romanian borders," CIS Group's CEO, Sebastian Calugar, said.

The Cairo branch, scheduled to start operations by mid-2024, will handle complex projects, including those undertaken in partnership with Town Gas, Egypt's largest natural gas distributor, CIS Gaz said.

The Hayah Karima project is a flagship project of the Egyptian government that will connect some 1,400 villages and small and medium towns to the natural gas network. CIS Gaz, in collaboration with local peer Total Gaz, will contribute by supplying 22 new natural gas regulation and measurement stations along with upgrades for nine existing ones, by the end of March this year.
