Egypt's Agricultural Exports Record $9 Billion, Says Minister

The Minister of Agriculture explained that the last of these markets is the the Brazilian market was opened to Egyptian potatoes.

El Sayed Al-Quseir, Minister of Agriculture confirmed that the measures taken by the Egyptian state  to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural exports contributed to achieving an unprecedented boom in this field.


This came during his speech, in the plenary session of the Senate to review the efforts of the Egyptian state in enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural exports in foreign markets.


 


 


 


Al-Quseir pointed out that the number of markets that were opened during the past ten years amounted to about 93, of which 30 were export markets during the last three years. 


More than 400 commodities are currently being exported to 160 markets. Among the most important of these markets is the Japanese market, which Egypt opened in 2020, as it required difficult and long procedures until approval was obtained for the first time in the history of agricultural exports, mainly citrus fruits. Egypt is currently being made to open more Japanese markets in front of Egypt's exports of grapes and pomegranates.


The Minister of Agriculture explained that the last of these markets is the the Brazilian market was opened to Egyptian potatoes.


Moreover, the volume of Egyptian agricultural exports witnessed an unprecedented boom in the volume of fresh agricultural exports in 2023, reaching about 7.4 million tons, an increase of nearly one million tons over the year 2022, with a total value of $3.7 billion, a number that has not been achieved in the history of Egyptian agricultural exports, in addition to $5.1 billion, the value of manufactured agricultural exports, bringing the total value of fresh and manufactured agricultural exports to about $9 Billions.


Al-Quseir confirmed that Egypt ranked first in the world in exports of  oranges and frozen strawberries for the third year in a row.


The minister pointed out that Egyptian agricultural exports have witnessed significant development in the last ten years, reaching about 7.44 million tons in 2023, compared to 4 million tons in 2014
