The president made his comment during a meeting on Monday with Dimitris Copelouzos, chairman of Greek infrastructure development group Copelouzos Group.

El-Sisi praised Egypt-Greece cooperation in all fields, saying it reflects the strong relations between the two countries.

He directed the government to finalize the proposed projects with the development group as soon as possible, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in a statement on Facebook.

El-Sisi was briefed on the latest developments in the GREGY project for electrical interconnection with Europe, following its successful addition to the list of EU energy Projects of Common and Mutual Interest last year.

The president was also informed about the Greek group’s plans to produce renewable energy in Egypt.

In October 2021, Egypt signed an agreement with Greece to extend an undersea cable that would transmit power from North Africa to Europe. In the same month, it signed an agreement on linking the two countries’ electricity transmission networks.

Known as the GREGY interconnection, the cable between Egypt and Greece is a 3.5-billion-euro project that will carry 3,000 MW RES and connect northern Egypt directly with Attica in Greece.
