The second strawberry harvest cycle is approaching in Egypt. Mohammed Ezzat, CEO of Egyptian producer Green Nile, predicts a fairly satisfactory season.

"The Egyptian strawberry season met a good start," says Ezzat. "The second harvest cycle starts in two weeks. So far, the news is positive. Coloring, size, and pesticide residue levels are good. We achieved good harvest levels in the first cycle. We encountered difficulties such as sudden climatic changes and phytosanitary problems, but it was possible to overcome them with the necessary farming operations," he explains.

Demand has been on target this season, adds Ezzat. "The list of markets focusing on Egyptian strawberries is growing. At the start of the season, we had steady demand from Germany, Poland, Brazil, China, Mexico, Russia, Holland, the USA and Canada."

"We make sure to offer our product at appropriate prices to each market, especially in countries where buyers pay more taxes on strawberry imports," says the exporter. "Prices have increased compared to the previous season, and vary from month to month, but we do our utmost to remain competitive."

The grower is confident that Egypt will soon be the leading exporter of fresh strawberries, "Our competition is working hard in this highly sought-after fruit. It's this competition that keeps us motivated to offer excellent strawberries that meet the standards of our markets," he concludes.
