Tecnimont gets go ahead for engineering works at Egyptian fertiliser project

Further, the company announced that full engineering procurement and construction (EPC) activities – awarded to a Tecnimont-led consortium for an overall value of US$300mn – is expected by the end of June 2024. 

When operational in 2026, the plant (located in the Aswan Governorship, in Upper Egypt) will replace the older units for the ammonium nitrate at site, thereby reducing the present greenhouse emissions through abatement systems. This will improve the overall energy efficiency and environmental standards of the facility. 

Alessandro Bernini, MAIRE CEO, remarked, “We are glad to start this strategic project, which is important for the industrial plans of KIMA as well as for the development of the agricultural activities in the whole region.”

The plant will also allow to fully exploit the upstream ammonia production facility (recently built by Tecnimont and successfully started up in 2020 in the same industrial site). This will enhance the economic return of the complex and the ammonium nitrate will be used as a fertiliser by local farmers as well as for exportation on international markets.
