Egypt's Ministry of Transport has gained approval from the Cabinet to proceed with a project that aims to produce green hydrogen. The project, developed in collaboration with Belgium's renowned energy company DEME, is part of Egypt's broader strategy to localize the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as green ammonia.

The proposed project will be strategically located near the Jarjoub sea port and the Jarjoub Special Economic Zone, demonstrating Egypt's commitment to utilizing its advantageous geographical position. The initial phase of the project is estimated to require a substantial investment of up to $3.1 billion.

According to an official statement released earlier this year by the Cabinet, the project will be executed in three distinct phases. Its primary objective is to cater to the growing demand for green hydrogen in the European market, emphasizing Egypt's ambition to solidify its status as a regional and global energy exporter.
