The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) on Tuesday fined the Telecom Egypt company LE20 million after it detected a serious infrastructure failure and interruption in its services across the country.

The NTRA also directed service provider companies to compensate affected customers, in accordance with the general rules for compensation issued by the authority to companies operating in the Egyptian market to protect the rights of users in the event that services are impacted.

It formed an emergency technical committee immediately after the outage occurred to determine its causes, the extent of the impact resulting from the outage, its duration and all impacted areas, until services are restored and stabilized in all regions.

Based on the committee’s report, the authority issued its decision to fine the company.
