The Egyptian government recently announced a temporary suspension of tariffs on imported chicken meat. This move aims to encourage shipments from countries like Brazil, holding a significant market share in the Egyptian poultry industry. The tariff, previously set at 30%, has been reduced to zero for a period of six months, significantly affecting Brazil's export of whole chicken, which serves as the primary product supplied by the country to the Egyptian market. As a result, it anticipates the Brazilian product will become more competitive, compensating for the local supply affected by the impacts of Avian Influenza and the increases in production costs. Furthermore, this move could provide new opportunities for Brazilian exporters as the recent tariff adjustments make the market more accessible. In addition to its significant import from Brazil, Egypt ranks among the top 20 largest importers of chicken meat from the South American country. During the period between January and September, Egypt imported 50,000 tons of the product, generating revenue worth US$ 107.7 million. The countries share a similar consumption profile, with whole chicken, particularly heavier tracks, being a popular product in both regions.
