Saudi Arabia has formally discontinued issuing visa stickers in favor of e-visas in seven nations. The decision to issue e-visas with QR codes went into force on May 1, 2023, claims the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

Jordan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Indonesia are among the nations that will gain from this project.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry’s initiative to establish e-visas aims to digitize consular services while also developing a new method of granting work, residence, and travel visas in the aforementioned nations.

Bahrain’s Minister of Tourism, Fatima Al Sairafi said that to increase tourism and boost income, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, including the UAE, are considering adopting a “Schengen-like visa.”
