Alkahera is an affiliate of the Ministry of Transport.

The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir and the Commercial Attaché of the South Korean Embassy in Egypt Suk Lee.

The two ships will be built according to the highest international specifications in shipbuilding, El-Wazir said, adding that the first ship will be delivered in February 2025, the second in April of the same year.

Each ship will have a holding capacity of 15,800 cubic metres and a cargo load of 14,000 tons. It can travel at a speed of 14 knots with a capacity of 709 standard containers and 98 refrigerated containers, El-Wazir explained.

The two ships will facilitate the export of Egyptian products to regional markets, being able to transport general cargo, bulk cargo, heavy cargo, vehicles, project cargo, and refrigerated products, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood, El-Wazir added.

The minister said there is a plan to support Alkahera company with four additional ships, bringing the total to six new ships in addition to the company's current two ferries (Cairo and Riyadh).

Egypt has a plan to manufacture commercial ships through cooperation with several international companies, including Dae Sun, El-Wazir noted.
