The Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that Egypt’s agricultural exports amounted to more than 2.5 million tons since January 2023.

This marks a 10% increase according to a report prepared by Ahmed Al-Attar, Head of Central Administration of Plant Quarantine. This accounts for an increase of 230,000 tons the same amount over the same period last year.

The report showed that the most exported agricultural crops are citrus fruits, potatoes, fresh onions, sweet potatoes, pomegranates, garlic, strawberries, beans, and guavas. The total agricultural exports of citrus fruits amount to more than 1.3 million tons on its own.

Last week, The Egyptian Cabinet has announced a 20% increase to EGP 1,500 per ardeb in the local wheat procurement price for the 2023 harvest season.

This comes in line with President Sisi’s decisions to reduce the import bill and encourage farmers to plant more strategic crops and rely less on imports.

Egypt is also continuing to support domestic agricultural and industrial production in its new budget, Egypt's Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait stated earlier this month.
