Health Ministry receive over 2mln doses of ‘modified’ Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced on Sunday, the reception of over 2 million doses of the modified Pfizer vaccine against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), at the Cairo International Airport, through 4 shipments that arrived successively over the past week.


Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that these shipments were provided by 8 friendly countries, namely; France, Sweden, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Latvia, through the COVAX mechanism, in cooperation with the International Alliance for Vaccines and Vaccines (GAVI).


He indicated that the modified Pfizer vaccine works effectively against mutants of the novel coronavirus, including Omicron, explaining that the vaccine will be given as a booster dose to those who have received previous doses of different types of vaccines, within the framework of the state’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of anti-virus vaccines, in order to preserve the gains of the Egyptian state in dealing with the pandemic.


Abdel Ghaffar added that the shipments will be distributed to vaccination centres spread across all governorates of the republic, after completing the necessary analyzes at the Egyptian Medicines Authority, stressing that the modified vaccine has been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Egyptian Medicines Authority.
