When Foreign Minister Qin Gang visited Cairo early this month, at the top of the agenda was how to attract Chinese tourists to the North African nation, known for its ancient pyramids.

Qin discussed increasing Chinese tourism to Egypt with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the country’s foreign minister, Sameh Shoukri.

He said China would facilitate people-to-people exchanges between China and Egypt.

“The Chinese side appreciates that Egypt welcomes Chinese tourists,” he said. “China believes that in the near future, the number of Chinese tourists and flights to Egypt will return to or even rise above pre-pandemic levels.”
