At a reception for a group of donors on Monday, UK Prime Minister and leader of the party Rishi Sunak announced that the Egyptian-British businessman would serve as one of the senior fundraisers in the run-up to the next general election.

According to the report, Mansour’s company Unatrac, British Unilever’s Caterpillar dealership in Africa, has donated over £600,000 to the Conservative Party.

Mansour said he looks forward to cooperating with the team to support the party and the UK.

“The prime minister is making the hard choices that are necessary during a tough period for the country,” the report quoted Mansour as saying.

Britain’s opposition Labour Party slammed the appointment.

“Just when you think the Conservatives have plumbed the depths of sleaze and scandal, we have this: a billionaire who was a part of Hosni Mubarak’s autocratic regime being put in charge of drumming up donations, to plug the gap left by those deserting this chaotic and stagnant government,” Chair of the party Anneliese Dodds said.
