The Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Al Sayed el Quseir announced the opening of the Philippine markets to Egyptian agricultural exports for the first time.

This came based on a report received by the minister from Ahmed Al-Attar, head of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, stating that the quarantine’s efforts had succeeded in ending the procedures for opening the Philippine markets to Egypt’s citrus exports for the first time, after intense negotiations between the Egyptian and Philippine parties that lasted for more than 5 years.

The Ministry stated that these efforts culminated last week in hosting the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, in coordination with the Export Council for Agricultural Crops, and a delegation from the Philippine Agricultural Quarantine.

The mechanisms for the actual implementation of this system and the control measures carried out by the agricultural quarantine on Egyptian exports of citrus fruits were also reviewed.

A visit was made to the central laboratory to analyze pesticide residues and heavy elements, and to see the latest methods and means used by the laboratory to analyze samples of farms and export shipments, which are withdrawn through agricultural quarantine inspectors.
