28% of Egyptian youth live in poverty
A report issued by Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on International Youth Day said on Wednesday that 27.8% of young people in Egypt are poor and 24.1% live on the edge of poverty.
The report said one of the contributing factors is that almost half of young people are not working. It went to indicate that those between ages 18 and 29 working in the labor force are 52 percent, of which 72.3 percent are males and 28.5 percent are females.
Those with permanent jobs are 46.4 percent, of which 42.7 percent are males and 70.8 percent females, and those with temporary contracts are 33.4 percent, of which 27.2 percent are males and 74.5 percent are females.
Those who have social security are 32.3 percent, of which 27.4 percent are males and 64.6 percent are females, while those who have medical insurance are 22.2 percent, of which 17.5 percent are males and 53.1 percent are females.
The unemployment rate among the 18-29 age group, which is 26.3 percent, of which 20.2 percent are males and 44.2 percent are females.
