Automotive market to finalise specifications for cars

he Egyptian automotive market will soon enforce standard specifications on imported cars, in parallel with what was implemented last year on locally produced cars. The ten standard specifications are on a number of car parts, including tyres and headlamps, among other parts.

The specifications were set after complete studies on the nature of the Egyptian market and were compared to the standard specifications of many countries, including European and Japanese specifications.

Although these specifications sought to define the Egyptian automotive market, they were the cause of a wide debate when they were applied. This led the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) to decide to issue only 10 standard specifications on an annual basis until all the necessary specifications are issued, which number more than 120.
