Tax revenue from pop concerts in Egypt rises in 2014

Egypt's government collected LE19 million in taxes from music concerts during the summer months of July and August, an 117 percent increase year-on-year.

The figures were released in a statement by Samia Hussein, the head of the property tax authority, released on Friday.

According to the statement, the authority collected LE8.7 million in the same period a year earlier.

Concerts by American pop star Enrique Iglesias and Egyptians Amr Diab and Mohamed Mounir were the biggest contributors this summer, adding LE325,000, LE277,000 and LE267,000 respectively to the treasury.

Iglesias performed in Egypt's Porto Marina on 9 August as part of his Love and Sex album tour.
