Egypt plans to train 300 more African engineers next year to enable them manage electricity grids across the continent, the Egyptian minister of electricity and energy, Hassan Younis, said here Monday at the opening of a conference on systems and databases for energy in Africa.

According to the minister, quoted extensively by the Egyptian local press, the north African country had already trained 4,130 engineers for the same purpose in the past few years.

Younis stated that systems and databases for energy in Africa would go a long way in enhancing appropriate policies to support projects in the continent.

He cited Egypt as an example where a database and a bank of information with a geographic information system had enabled the sector to determine the requirements for implementing more projects in producing more electricity for the country, as well as extending more networks for the distribution of electricity to meet the requirements of development in Egypt.
