The Shopping Industry publishes about 54% of Google Ads a month. Which other sectors actually advertise on Google and why?

After talking about the prices of AdWords in the past paper (, let us take a look at which industries and sectors use Google Ads in the first place.

The following list includes the top 100 advertisers (measured by monthly ad volume per industry) on Google:

1. Shopping: 54%
Everything gets sold on Google! The sector serving consumers publishes about 891,736 advertisements on Google per month.

2. Travel and Accommodation: 14%
Way behind the shopping-sector, the travel and accommodation industry makes up about 230,759 monthly ads on Google.

3. Search Engines: 14%
Advertise for a search engine through a search engine – brilliant idea! About 228,717 Google’s ads / month are about other search engines.

4. Local Search: 7%
Local Search is basically any search aimed at finding something within a specific geographic area. Tools that offer this service make up about 123,870 of Google’s monthly ads.

5. Business Resources: 4%
Business Resources are human, financial, physical, and knowledge factors that provide a firm the means to perform it business processes. About 71,491 companies in that field help Google with filling up monthly ad-space.

6. Web Portals: 3%
If I were a website, where would I place my ad? On Google, of course! Although the number is not as high as expected, but fact is that 42,700 web portals a month place their advertising through Google.

7. Information Resources: 2%
Information resources cover about 38,728 of monthly advertising in Google.

8. Miscellaneous: 2%
Other sectors and fields make up about 26,432 of Google’s monthly advertising spaces.
