Commercial operation of Kuraimat power station in August

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is running the last trial required for the power station to work by the solar thermal in Kurimat by 140 MW.

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is running the last trial required for the power station to work by the solar thermal in Kurimat by 140 MW, and after these trials the commercial operation of the plant will start mid next month, it will cost 2 billion pounds to meet the increase of loads during this period to operate by sun during the day and by natural gas at night to ensure the operation throughout the day.

Dr. Hassan Yunis said that these trials are the last stages of the pilot to run the station after it was successfully completed from the experiences of testing and operating of all machines and station's equipment.

The Minister added that the project is one of the 4 world leading projects in the field.

As part of the plan of the electricity and energy sector is to develop the use of renewable energies as energies are exhaustible and environmentally friendly.

And that the investment cost of the plant as a whole at about 2 billion pounds including the contribution of the Global Environment Facility by a grant of $ 50 million and and Japan Bank for International Cooperation soft loan.
